Milano Marittima, Beach resort district in Cervia, Italy
Milano Marittima is a coastal district within Cervia, stretching along the Adriatic Sea between Lido di Savio and the town center. The sandy beach runs parallel to a wide pine forest that shelters paths and villas inland.
The first villas rose after 1912, when a company began subdividing plots among the old pines. The district later evolved into a seaside resort with hotels and facilities spreading along the coast.
Streets radiate from Rotonda I Maggio in concentric circles, a central roundabout surrounded by pines. Many residents enjoy walks beneath the old trees, which provide shade even during summer months.
Numerous hotels and private beaches line the waterfront, while thermal baths and the Butterfly House lie near the pine forest. Paths through the woodland offer a break from the beach, especially during hot afternoon hours.
During the second world conflict, an airstrip appeared among the trees, used by Allied troops. Concrete bunkers from the German period still stand along the shoreline, visible in the sand.
