Santissimo Nome di Maria in Via Latina, Modern parish church in Appio Latino, Italy.
Santissimo Nome di Maria in Via Latina is a modern parish church in Rome with a square floor plan and cut corners, supported by a tall rectangular concrete frame. The roof is flat, and the building sits on four horizontal steps supported by vertical concrete structural elements.
The church was built in 1980 and inaugurated on April 4, 1981, designed by architect Aldo Ortolani. Since its opening, it has served as a center for the Marianist community in Rome.
The interior uses modern stained glass in azure blue with abstract patterns that create a calm light throughout the space. Behind the altar, a large concrete wall displays a Christ figure as the focal point.
The church is located at Via Centirupe 18/22 in the Appio Latino district and is easy to access. It remains open to visitors and continues to function as an active place of worship with regular services.
The building includes two semi-circular chapels positioned at the side angles, adding unexpected geometric complexity to the modern design. These chapels create smaller spaces within the otherwise open floor plan.
