Forte Foens

Forte Foens stands at an altitude of 2205 meters, featuring defensive walls with loopholes and small bastions for strategic fire positioning.

The fort, constructed between 1897 and 1899, formed part of Italy's military defense system with four 149mm artillery pieces covering the upper valley.

The fort represents late 19th-century Italian military architecture, incorporating underground storage facilities and specialized ammunition transport systems.

Visitors can reach the fort through a gravel road from Savoulx, with the trail covering 37.9 kilometers and an elevation gain of 1,300 meters.

The structure contained accommodations for 300 soldiers and 20 pack animals, complete with an underground powder storage connected by a freight elevator.
