Punta Galambra, Mountain peak in Piedmont, Italy
Punta Galambra is a mountain peak in the Cottian Alps reaching around 3,100 meters, marked by a steep limestone ridge at its summit. The peak rises between the Rochemolles and Valfredda valleys and features multiple secondary summits that shape its distinctive form.
The mountain held military importance as shown by remains of a shelter positioned on its northeastern side. This structure reflects how Alpine ridges served as strategic points for regional defense and border control.
The summit marks where three communities meet at their shared boundary, making it a geographical landmark that connects Bardonecchia, Oulx, and Exilles.
Access to the summit follows ridge routes connecting the Galambra and Fourneaux passes, crossing terrain covered with loose rock and debris. The Sigot bivouac provides shelter for climbers undertaking this demanding ascent.
The eastern side of the peak serves as a meeting point where multiple valleys converge, with the Galambra Valley being particularly prominent. This arrangement of valley systems creates an unusual geographical pattern visible from various vantage points.
