Futami district, Administrative district in Hokkaido, Japan
Futami District spans across 956 square kilometers of land between the Sea of Japan and Uchiura Bay in northern Hokkaido.
The district underwent significant administrative changes on October 1, 2005, when the town of Kumaishi merged with Yakumo to form a new municipality.
The district encompasses the town of Yakumo, which maintains connections to both the Sea of Japan and Pacific Ocean, influencing local fishing traditions.
The district maintains a population of approximately 15,000 residents and functions as part of the Oshima Subprefecture administrative system.
The name Futami, written as 二海郡 in Japanese, translates to 'two seas,' referring to its position between two major bodies of water.
