The Osarugawa Bridge is a reinforced concrete road bridge in Date that carries the Do-O Expressway across the Osaru River. The structure connects different sections of the city and allows traffic to flow over the river valley.
The Osarugawa Bridge was built between August 1991 and March 1994 for the Japan Highway Public Corporation, now part of NEXCO East, as part of the Do-O Expressway. Chiyoda Consultants, Yamato Design and Nippon Construction Consultants designed it, while P.S. and Fuji P.S. with D.P.S. and Nippon Koatu formed the construction joint ventures.
The bridge carries the Do-O Expressway over the Osaru River on a 1,772.5 m structure, Japan's longest expressway bridge over a river. A sign before the bridge reads "高速道日本一 橋長1,770m", marking the record for drivers crossing between Date and the surrounding area.
The bridge is used year-round by vehicles and provides a key connection on the expressway. When crossing the bridge, expect normal road conditions, especially during seasons with heavy snow.
At 1,772.5 m, it is Japan's longest bridge carrying an expressway over a river. A sign before the bridge reads "高速道日本一 橋長1,770m" (Japan's No. 1 expressway bridge, 1,770 m). The deck is a prestressed concrete continuous rigid-frame box girder with 40 m spans.
