室蘭市青少年科学館, Science museum in Muroran, Japan.
Muroran Youth Science Museum was a facility that taught scientific principles through interactive displays, hands-on demonstrations, fossils, and mineral exhibits. A 3D simulator allowed visitors to experience scientific concepts directly.
The facility opened on April 1, 1963, as Hokkaido's first science museum and reached one million visitors by 1974. It operated for more than 50 years before closing on March 31, 2021.
The museum held close ties with Muroran Institute of Technology and hosted robot soccer competitions that brought together students from different grade levels. These events were significant in the local education scene.
The museum was open from 10 AM to 5 PM between March and October, and until 4 PM from November to February. Note that the facility closed in 2021.
The museum featured a greenhouse and wild plant garden where visitors could observe different plant species throughout the year. The facility also used solar panels for energy generation.
