Mt. Fuji Station, Railway terminus in Fujiyoshida, Japan
Mt. Fuji Station is a railway terminus in Fujiyoshida with three platforms located at about 800 meters elevation and marked by a large red torii gate at its entrance. The building houses multiple floors of shops and an observation deck offering views of the surrounding area.
The station opened in 1929 as Fuji-Yoshida Station and served as a terminus for a mountain railway. It was renamed and completely redesigned in 2011 by designer Eiji Mitooka.
The station serves as a gateway to the sacred mountain and is experienced by visitors as the starting point for their ascent journey. Its role in connecting people to this spiritual destination shapes how locals and travelers think about the place.
The station operates daily from early morning to evening and connects to bus routes heading to the mountain's upper stations and other destinations. Visitors can easily access other areas through connecting services available from the terminal.
At this terminal, train drivers must change train ends to continue service between Otsuki and Kawaguchiko stations. This operational detail reflects how rail service adapts to mountain geography and the needs of the route.
