Mesuriyama Kofun

The Mesuriyama Kofun stretches 224 meters in length and features a distinct keyhole shape with a circular section connected to a square platform.

Built during the 4th century, this tomb represents the architectural practices of the Kofun period when large burial mounds marked the final resting places of society leaders.

The secondary stone chamber contains 212 iron halberds and numerous artifacts, including stone bracelets and farming tools, reflecting the military and agricultural practices of ancient Japan.

The burial mound stands as a designated Historic Site of Japan on the left bank of the Hatsuse-gawa River, accessible to researchers and visitors interested in archaeological studies.

The rectangular mound measuring 11.3 by 4.8 meters sits atop the rounded section, surrounded by traditional unglazed terracotta cylinders called haniwa.
