ホワイトピアたかす, Ski resort in Gujo City, Japan
Whitepier Takasu (ホワイトピアたかす) is a ski resort on the western slope of Mount Washigatake, near Gujo City in Gifu Prefecture, Japan, with 13 runs and five lifts. The trails cover a vertical drop of around 350 meters and are laid out to suit different skill levels.
The mountains around Washigatake have been linked to winter travel and mountain life for over 1,300 years. The area was later developed into a modern ski resort, building on that long history of people moving through winter terrain.
The resort offers Kanjiki tours, where visitors can try traditional Japanese snowshoes made from wood and rope. This is the same technique mountain people once used to get around in winter, and you can experience it directly on the snow today.
The resort is open from late November to late March and sits in mountain terrain, so warm and waterproof clothing is essential. Having a car makes getting there much easier, as the resort is located outside the city.
From the slopes you can see several peaks at once, including Mount Gozengamine and Mount Kengamine, which rise above the surrounding ridges. This view across multiple summits makes each run feel like a tour through the wider mountain range.
