Otomeyama Kofun

The Otomeyama Kofun extends 130 meters in length with a distinctive scallop shell shape, featuring a circular rear portion and shortened rectangular front section.

Built during the 5th century, this burial mound contains clay chambers and multiple stone-lined tiers, reflecting the funeral practices of Japan's ancient elite.

The tomb's name stems from local tales about a maiden buried there, while its architectural design represents the social hierarchy of the Kofun period.

Located within Umami Hills Park, visitors can access the burial mound through the central parking area and follow marked paths to reach the site.

The western section of the circular portion includes a specialized platform measuring 11 meters long and 23 meters wide for conducting burial ceremonies.
