Mount Ohira

Mount Ohira is a 1603 meter summit in the Okuchichibu Mountains with multiple marked trails winding through dense forest. The area features steep slopes and open resting areas offering views across the surrounding mountain landscape.

The mountain historically served as a provincial boundary marker that shaped regional settlement patterns. Over centuries, established hiking routes developed here as part of local mountain traditions.

The surrounding Chichibu region maintains traditional mountain worship practices, incorporating seasonal ceremonies and rituals at specific locations throughout the year.

The best hiking season is from May to October when trails are dry and safe for travel. Bring sturdy footwear and plenty of water, as there are no shops along the routes.

Snow accumulates on higher slopes during winter months, creating an entirely different hiking experience. Some local hikers bring equipment like crampons to safely cross icy sections.
