比良山スキー場, Former ski resort in Otsu, Japan.
Hirasansan Ski Resort was a winter sports facility on Mount Konoyama near Otsu that offered several slopes of varying difficulty. The runs had different lengths and grades and were accessible through a combination of lift systems and mountain transport.
The facility opened in 1961 and reached its peak during the 1980s as a popular regional destination for winter sports. Operations ceased in 2004 after winter tourism in the area declined.
The resort served the local skiing community and families from the broader Kanto region who came to practice their winter skills on its varied slopes. It provided beginner courses and more challenging runs that catered to different levels of experience.
Reaching the slopes required multiple stages of ascent using various lift systems and walking sections. Visitors should have been prepared for steep climbs and several transitions to access the higher-altitude runs.
Portions of the terrain offered views of Lake Biwa, Japan's largest freshwater lake, adding a distinctive element to the skiing experience. These panoramic vistas made visits memorable for many who came to enjoy both sports and scenery.
