Numata Castle, Mountain castle in Gunma Prefecture, Japan

Numata Castle stands on elevated ground with stone walls and wooden structures, offering defensive positions over the surrounding valleys and mountains of Gunma.

Built in 1532 by Numata Akiyasu, the castle served as a military base during regional conflicts until its dismantling in 1682 under Tokugawa orders.

The castle grounds host traditional ceremonies and contain a bell tower, featuring a replica of the original 1634 bell cast during the Edo period.

Located in Numata Park at 594 Nishikurauchi-machi, the castle remains are open daily to visitors who can explore the foundation stones and restored structures.

The original castle bell from 1634, commissioned by Sanada Nobuyoshi, remains preserved as an Important Cultural Property of Gunma Prefecture.
