Tamachi Rolling Stock Center is a rail yard and maintenance facility in the Minato area of Tokyo, Japan. The facility houses multiple tracks where train cars are stored, inspected, and repaired before returning to service.
The facility was founded in the 1930s and became a key part of Tokyo's railway system. It was operated by the East Japan Railway Company and supported train maintenance throughout the city's urban expansion.
The yard is a functional work area not designed for tourists, but train enthusiasts are welcome to visit and observe. Access from nearby stations is straightforward, and viewing the facility is best done from public areas adjacent to the site.
The site was historically part of the Takanawa checkpoint, a former gate into Edo-era Tokyo where merchants and travelers entered from the south. Today it is being replaced by Takanawa Gateway Station, transforming a historical passage into a modern transit hub.
