Bandokoro Falls

The water plunges 40 meters down a trapezoidal rock face, creating a powerful cascade that measures 11 meters in width at the Bandokoro Falls location.

The waterfall formed through geological processes involving ancient lava flows, which created the distinctive basalt formations visible around the cascade today.

Local residents maintain traditional practices of visiting the falls during spring water ceremonies, marking the seasonal changes in the Japanese Alps region.

Visitors can reach the falls by taking a train to Shin-Shimashima Station, followed by a bus to Bandokoro-dake Stop and a 10-minute walk to the observation point.
