Museum of Stones and Kenji

The Museum of Stones and Kenji brings together the life and works of author Kenji Miyazawa with mineral specimens from the Iwate Prefecture region. The exhibits include manuscripts, documents, and rock samples collected from the local area.

The museum site was once a limestone crushing plant where Miyazawa worked as an engineer in 1930. This experience with materials and industrial processes deeply shaped his perspective on the natural world.

The museum reveals how author Kenji Miyazawa saw nature and wrote about it, linking his stories to local stones and minerals. Visitors can explore the connection between his literary imagination and the geological world around him.

The facility includes the House of Sun and Wind, a special section featuring rare minerals like ulexite and an impressive fossilized ammonite shell. This area offers an unexpected view of ancient treasures and glowing stones.
