Chōjagahara temple ruins, Archaeological site of Buddhist temple in Ōshū, Japan
The temple complex contains foundations of the South Gate, western building, wooden palisade, and moats extending over 100 meters on each side.
The temple was built during the late Heian period and transformed from an Abe clan palace before being destroyed by fire in the Former Nine Years War.
Archaeological excavations at the site uncovered multiple artifacts including ink stones, ceramic fragments, and roof tiles similar to those found at Chuson-ji.
The ruins are situated 3 kilometers southeast of Maesawa Station on JR East and 1 kilometer north of Chuson-ji in the Iwaizumi area.
The temple served as a bodaiji for the Abe clan, built upon their former palace grounds, though its original name remains unknown to this day.
