Port of Fukuyama, Commercial port in Fukuyama, Japan.
The Port of Fukuyama serves as the main maritime gateway for eastern Hiroshima Prefecture, with two container terminals equipped with quays roughly 170 meters long. The harbor basin reaches about 10 meters in depth and accommodates both commercial cargo vessels and smaller fishing boats.
The harbor developed as a central trading point along the Seto Inland Sea and helped make Fukuyama grow into the second largest city in Hiroshima Prefecture. This strategic location shaped its importance and role for centuries.
The port area connects deeply with local fishing traditions, as maritime communities have maintained their practices here for many generations. Daily fishing activities continue to shape how the harbor feels and operates.
The port can handle vessels weighing up to about 200,000 deadweight tons and measuring up to about 350 meters long. Fuel can be supplied by delivery boats on site, which simplifies logistics for longer journeys.
The port area hosts major operations of JFE Steel Corporation, making it a key center for steel product handling. Steel products and dry bulk cargo are processed and distributed here on a large scale.
