Yagenbori Fudō-in, Buddhist temple in Higashi-Nihonbashi, Japan.
Yagenbori Fudō-in is a Buddhist temple in Higashi-Nihonbashi dedicated to Fudo Myoo, an important protective deity, and combines traditional Japanese architecture with multiple altars for worship. The complex features both the classical design of older temples and functional spaces for believers and pilgrims to use.
The temple was founded in 1591 following the destruction of the main temple in Osaka by Oda Nobunaga. It emerged during a period of Buddhist reorganization after this political upheaval.
The temple remains part of two major pilgrimage circuits in the region: the Kanto Thirty-Six Fudo Sacred Sites and the Gofunai Henro route. Visitors can observe regular Buddhist ceremonies dedicated to Fudo Myoo and the spiritual practices connected to this protective deity.
The temple is located in Higashi-Nihonbashi and offers free admission year-round to visitors. Regular Buddhist ceremonies take place and provide opportunities to experience the practices firsthand.
The temple houses several historical statues and religious artifacts that show centuries of Buddhist practice in the area. These objects offer visible connections to the spiritual history of central Tokyo.
