Tokitsukaze stable, Sumo training facility in Ryogoku district, Tokyo, Japan

Tokitsukaze is a residential center for professional sumo wrestlers in the Ryogoku district, providing year-round training, living, and dining facilities. The facility organizes the athletes' daily lives according to a strict schedule and hierarchical rules.

The wrestler Futabayama established this training facility in 1941, receiving its current name a few years later. Over the decades, the center has produced many successful wrestlers.

Many wrestlers adopt ring names featuring the character 時 (toki), which means time, creating a shared identity within the training community. This naming tradition strengthens the sense of belonging among the athletes.

Morning training sessions can be arranged through hotel concierges or authorized tour operators to observe the practice routines. Visitors should remain quiet and follow strict etiquette rules during training hours.

Founder Futabayama achieved a record series of 69 consecutive wins during his active career. This remarkable achievement remains one of the highest standards in professional sumo to this day.
