Nishikido stable, Sumo training facility in Sumida Ward, Tokyo, Japan
Nishikido is a training facility in Sumida Ward where wrestlers live together and prepare for competition. The building follows the classic layout with a central clay ring surrounded by living and sleeping quarters for all members.
Mitoizumi, a former wrestler from Takasago stable, founded this establishment in 2002. The school joined the existing network of training houses and began developing its own competitors.
The stable maintains traditional sumo practices, including morning training sessions, hierarchical structure, and specific dietary requirements for all resident wrestlers.
Visitors can watch morning training from around half past five, but need to call ahead for permission. The rooms are small, so it is best to stay quiet and avoid taking photos unless explicitly invited to do so.
Kazafuzan, who trained here, was the first Kazakh to enter the professional ranks. He advanced to the makushita division, opening the door for other athletes from Central Asia.
