Mihogaseki stable, Sumo training facility in Chuo, Tokyo, Japan
Mihogaseki stable was a sumo training facility in Chuo Ward, Tokyo. The building contained an open practice floor with a clay ring, living quarters for wrestlers, and a communal kitchen for daily meals.
Wrestlers from Osaka founded the facility during the Edo period. The training operation moved between Tokyo and Osaka until its final closure in 2013.
The daily routine at Mihogaseki stable incorporated structured training schedules, ceremonial rituals, and communal living arrangements for all resident wrestlers.
The former training site now houses a chanko stew restaurant. Visitors can sample dishes traditionally eaten by active sumo wrestlers.
The son of the tenth and final master now runs the chanko restaurant in the former building. The recipe comes directly from the kitchen where generations of wrestlers ate.
