Roadside station Tanabe Ryujin Gomasan sky tower, Roadside station and observation tower in Tanabe, Japan
Gomasan Sky Tower is a 33 meter tall observation structure beside National Route 371 in Tanabe. The viewing platform looks out toward mountains and the Kii Channel waters.
This facility opened in 2012 as a rest stop along the Koya-Ryujin Skyline mountain route. It has served travelers since then as a waypoint on this scenic drive.
The tower's shape draws inspiration from wooden stacks burned in Goma fire ceremonies, linking the structure to Japanese Buddhist practices.
The facility operates seasonally from April through November with varying hours on weekdays and weekends. Weather conditions may affect access to the observation deck on certain days.
The shop sells local Shiitake-bushi, a specialty product made from dried mushroom shavings unique to the area. The restaurant features dishes prepared with ingredients sourced from nearby Ryujin Village.
