湘南銀河大橋, Cable-stayed bridge across the Sagami River in Kanagawa, Japan.
The Shonan Ginga Bridge is a cable-stayed crossing over the Sagami River that connects Samukawa Town with Hiratsuka City in Kanagawa. The structure spans approximately 520 meters with three continuous steel sections forming a single cohesive design.
The bridge began operations in 1998 with a single lane in each direction before being expanded to two lanes per direction by 2007. This staged approach allowed gradual integration into the regional road network.
The name Shonan Ginga, meaning Shonan Galaxy, was chosen from thousands of public suggestions and reflects how residents see this crossing as a landmark connecting their communities.
The bridge forms part of Kanagawa Prefectural Road 44, carrying traffic between major expressway interchanges in the region. You can view it from the riverbanks or drive across to experience the views over the water.
The structure won a national construction award in 1998 for its engineering innovations, incorporating cable designs that made the bridge both strong and visually distinct.
