Sendai Kaleidoscopes Art Museum

The Sendai Kaleidoscopes Art Museum is a three-story facility displaying rotating collections of ornate optical instruments and handcrafted objects. Each floor holds exhibition spaces dedicated to different types of kaleidoscopes and related optical artworks created by various makers.

The institution opened in 1999 as a dedicated space for presenting kaleidoscopic artworks and optical instruments. Since then it has grown to focus specifically on collecting and displaying these objects for visitors.

The museum holds works by potter Tsuji Teruko and presents how Japanese artists have explored kaleidoscopes as a form of creative expression. The collection reflects local interest in combining handcraft with optical design in ways that feel natural within Japanese artistic traditions.
