Seogang Bridge, Road bridge in Seoul, South Korea
Seogang Bridge is a road bridge crossing the Han River in Seoul with six traffic lanes for vehicle movement. The structure features an arched design and passes over an island in the river.
Construction started in 1980 but stopped after three years due to lack of funding, then resumed in 1993. The bridge was completed and opened to traffic in 1996.
The bridge links two busy districts of Seoul and is used daily by commuters and travelers crossing between the riverbanks. It shapes the skyline and has become part of the city's everyday rhythm.
The bridge connects the districts of Mapo and Yeongdeungpo and carries thousands of vehicles daily. Pedestrians and cyclists can also cross it and enjoy views of the river and the urban landscape.
The structure was built with special expansion joints that can absorb movements of more than 30 cm (1 ft) during temperature changes and vibrations. This technical detail makes the crossing more stable and safe.
