FKI Tower, Modern skyscraper in Yeoui-dong, South Korea
FKI Tower is a glass skyscraper in Yeoui-dong, Seoul, South Korea, rising to about 245 meters across 50 above-ground floors. The building has a fully glazed facade that reflects the sky and the surrounding towers of the Yeouido district.
Construction started in 2010 and the tower was completed in 2014, built to designs by an internationally active architecture firm. It rose during a period when Yeouido was expanding rapidly as a base for corporate headquarters.
The tower is home to the Federation of Korean Industries, the country's main business lobby group. Walking through Yeouido, you can see how this building and the surrounding corporate towers together give the district its reputation as Seoul's financial center.
The tower sits in the heart of Yeouido, a dense office district that is well served by the metro. Access to the interior is mainly for employees and scheduled visitors, but the surrounding streets and riverside park are open to anyone.
In 2015, the tower received a prize from an international architecture body, which was uncommon for such a recently completed building in Seoul at the time. The award drew attention to Yeouido as a place for contemporary architecture, not just finance.
