Khushab District, Administrative district in Punjab, Pakistan
Khushab District is an administrative region in Punjab between Sargodha and Mianwali, spanning 6,511 square kilometers with agricultural land, desert regions, and three natural lakes. The four administrative subdivisions of Khushab, Noorpur Thal, Quaidabad, and Naushera form the territorial structure, with Jauharabad serving as the administrative center.
The district was created on July 2, 1982, when it separated from Sargodha District during an administrative reorganization of Punjab Province. This reform reshaped several regional territories and their administrative boundaries.
The name comes from Persian words meaning sweet water, reflecting how the Jhelum River has shaped the lives and traditions of people living here for generations.
Visitors should know the region divides into four distinct administrative areas, each with different access routes and characteristics. Travel during cooler months offers the best experience for exploring the agricultural plains and natural lakes.
The region houses the Khushab Nuclear Complex, a research facility with heavy water and natural uranium reactors for scientific applications. This installation shapes the scientific importance of the area in ways most visitors overlook.
