The Belgrade Zoo spans 7 hectares within the Belgrade Fortress grounds, housing 2,000 animals representing 200 different species in specialized habitats.
Established in 1936, the zoo endured significant damage during World War II when bombing raids in 1941 and 1944 destroyed facilities and caused animal casualties.
The facility carries the name Garden of Good Hope, reflecting its dedication to animal conservation and educational programs for Serbian school children.
The zoo maintains daily operations from 8:00 to 19:30, offering visitors direct access through the main entrance of the Belgrade Fortress complex.
Belgrade Zoo houses Muja, an American alligator that arrived in 1937, recognized as the oldest living alligator in captivity worldwide.
