Arshan

Arshan sits at 835 meters altitude near the Kyngyrga River in a valley of the snow-capped Sayan Mountains. The settlement features several waterfalls and natural mineral springs found throughout the surrounding landscape.

In 1920, after being freed from the White Cossacks, the settlement became a medical facility for the Red Army. This role as a place for healing soldiers shaped how the area developed after that.

The Khoymorski Datsan Bodhidharma Temple on the grounds shows Buddhist traditions and reflects how local people practice their faith. You can visit this spiritual place and see how religion shapes the community here.

Walking is the best way to explore the area, as most attractions involve hiking into the mountains. Summer and early fall are the best times to visit when trails are clear and waterfalls are easy to reach.

The area contains more than 20 dormant volcanoes from the Mesozoic era that are now just geological formations in the landscape. This ancient volcanic past contributes to the high mineral content of the springs that visitors can use today.
