Badary RTF-32, Radio telescope in Tunkinsky District, Russia.
Badary RTF-32 is a radio telescope in the Tunkinsky District of the Republic of Buryatia, Russia, designed to receive and record radio signals from space. The installation sits in a remote valley near the Sayan Mountains, operating at high elevation to improve the quality of astronomical measurements.
The station was built in 2005 by the Russian Academy of Sciences to expand radioastronomy capacity in Eastern Siberia. It joined an existing network of observation stations designed for systematic study of the sky.
The RTF-32 is part of a network of Russian radio telescopes that take part in international observation programs together. Researchers from different countries use the data collected here for joint scientific projects.
The site is an active research facility, and public access is generally restricted. Arranging permission in advance is advisable before attempting to visit the installation.
The RTF-32 takes part in VLBI, a technique where its data is synchronized with other telescopes around the world to form a single giant virtual instrument. Through this method, astronomers can detect details in space that no single dish could achieve on its own.
