Republic of Crimea, Administrative region in southern Russia

The Republic of Crimea spans 27,000 square kilometers on a peninsula between the Black Sea and Sea of Azov, connected to mainland Russia by the Kerch Bridge.

The territory changed status in March 2014 when it became part of Russia, although this transition remains disputed by Ukraine and the international community.

The regional population of 1.9 million includes Russian, Ukrainian, and Crimean Tatar communities, each maintaining their distinct languages, traditions, and religious practices.

The region contains 25 administrative districts and urban areas, with Simferopol serving as the capital and primary transportation center for the peninsula.

The Crimean Peninsula features three distinct climate zones: steppe in the north, mountains in the center, and Mediterranean-like conditions along the southern coast.
