Chornomorske Raion, Administrative district in western Crimea.
Chornomorske Raion is an administrative district in western Crimea spanning several settlements across the Tarkhankut Peninsula with coastal access. The region includes around 31 villages managed through rural councils and extends across a broad territory.
The district was established in 1930 and underwent several name changes reflecting changes in administrative control. What was originally called Ak-Méchet eventually became known as Chornomorske during the Soviet period.
The population of 30,500 residents represents a diverse demographic composition with Russians, Ukrainians, and Crimean Tatars forming the main ethnic groups.
The district comprises scattered rural settlements rather than a single urban center, so plan accordingly when exploring. Understanding the layout helps visitors navigate between the various villages spread across the region.
The region sits below sea level and served as a center for offshore drilling operations that shaped local infrastructure. This economic activity left a distinctive mark on how the territory was developed and organized.
