Dzhankoi Raion, Administrative region in northern Crimea
Dzhankoi Raion is an administrative district in northern Crimea covering an area near Syvash Bay. The region contains two urban centers and numerous rural settlements organized into councils across the territory.
The district was established on October 11, 1923 as a new administrative division in northern Crimea. This created a distinct administrative unit for the region that has continued in various forms since its inception.
The population of 68,429 residents includes Russian, Ukrainian, and Crimean Tatar communities, each maintaining their specific customs and traditions.
Water supply to the region comes mainly from the North-Crimean Canal, which carries water from the Dnieper River through the district. This water infrastructure is essential for agriculture and supporting the local settlements.
Recent administrative changes proposed by Ukraine aim to reorganize the region from 14 raions into 10, though implementation remains pending due to territorial disputes.
