Rykove, Settlement in Henichesk Raion, Ukraine
Rykove is a settlement in southeastern Ukraine within the Henichesk area. It sits along a railway that connects Melitopol to Novooleksiivka and is crossed by the M18 highway.
The settlement was originally named Partyzany until 2016, when Ukrainian legislation prohibited Communist-origin names and it was renamed. This change was part of a nationwide decommunization effort.
The settlement maintains multiple language variations of its name, including Рикове in Ukrainian and Рыково in Russian, reflecting the regional linguistic diversity.
The location sits on a major transport route connecting Kharkiv to the Crimea region through large cities like Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia. Visitors should note this is a very small place that functions mainly as a passing point.
In January 2024, Rykove transitioned from an urban-type settlement to a rural settlement status due to new Ukrainian administrative reforms.
