Church of the Holy Mandylion

The Church of the Holy Mandylion is an Orthodox house of worship in Sochi located near the Olympic Park and standing 43 meters tall. Built from brick, the structure showcases Byzantine Revival design with decorative facades featuring geometric patterns and ornamental details.

This house of worship was built between 2012 and 2014 as part of Sochi's Olympic development. Its first service took place on January 7, 2014, coinciding with Russian Orthodox Christmas.

The church honors the Mandylion, a sacred cloth bearing Christ's face that holds deep meaning in Orthodox belief and practice. Visitors can observe this devotion reflected in the icons and decorations throughout the interior.

The building is located in the Imereti Valley and is easily accessible by tram from the Olympic Park area. Visitors should note that services follow the Orthodox calendar and modest clothing is expected inside.

The building was specifically constructed as part of the 2014 Winter Olympics development and stands in close proximity to the modern sports complex. This unusual blend of contemporary development and classical religious architecture makes the location notable.
