Gay World Amusement Park, Entertainment complex in Kallang, Singapore
Gay World Amusement Park was an entertainment complex in Kallang that housed four cinemas, dance halls, a stadium with 7,000 seats, and numerous game booths. The facility spread across multiple hectares along Geylang Road near the Kallang River.
The complex opened in 1937 as Happy World and remained operational even through World War II. It closed its doors in 2000 after more than six decades of operation.
The park hosted traditional Javanese dance performances and film screenings that drew visitors from across the city. These shows became a regular part of the area's entertainment culture and shaped how people spent their leisure time.
The site was easily accessible from Geylang Road and offered multiple entertainment options under one roof. Visitors could choose from various activities depending on what type of entertainment they preferred.
Hostesses working in the park's cabaret founded a school for disadvantaged children in 1946. This initiative showed how the workers used their earnings to support those in need.
