Gedung Kuning, Historical mansion in Kampong Glam, Singapore
The yellow-walled Gedung Kuning stands as a two-story Palladian structure with classical symmetry, terracotta roof tiles, and ornamental plasterwork at 73 Sultan Gate.
Built in 1846, the mansion served as residence for Tengku Mahmud, grandson of Sultan Hussein of Johor, before merchant Haji Yusoff purchased it in 1912.
The building's yellow exterior reflects Malay royal traditions, while its interior layout and architectural elements combine British colonial and local residential designs.
Gedung Kuning now houses Permata restaurant, which serves Nusantara cuisine through halal buffets with free dining for children under five years old.
The property changed ownership multiple times between 1919 and 1925 due to reported misfortunes, leading Haji Yusoff to repurchase it at a lower price.
