Centennial Tower, Skyscraper in Marina Centre, Singapore
The Centennial Tower is a skyscraper in Marina Centre, Singapore, featuring an elliptical design that follows the curve of Temasek Avenue. This 158-meter-tall building with 37 floors connects to a two-level basement parking area and provides underground passages linking to Millenia Walk and The Ritz-Carlton.
Construction started in 1995 and finished in 1997, with advanced building techniques allowing 20 floors to rise in just three months. This rapid pace demonstrated the engineering capabilities of construction methods available at that time in Singapore.
The main lobby features a striking mural by artist James Rosenquist titled 'Persistence of Electrical Nymphs in Space', displayed alongside imagery of Singapore and Bali. The artwork creates a welcoming entry space that greets visitors and workers with creative visual expression.
The building connects to nearby shopping centers and hotels through underground passages, offering protected access even during heavy rain. Visitors should note that the basement parking spans two levels and is clearly marked to help with navigation.
The structure was designed to accommodate a future vertical expansion of 15 additional floors, potentially reaching a total of 52 stories. This forward-thinking construction shows how architects anticipated the city's growth, though such an expansion has not been executed to date.
