The Helix Bridge, Pedestrian bridge in Downtown Core, Singapore
The Helix Bridge stretches 280 meters across the Singapore River, featuring a double-helix structure made entirely of stainless steel tubes measuring 273 millimeters in diameter.
The bridge construction started in 2007 using 650 tonnes of duplex stainless steel, with the official opening taking place on April 24, 2010.
The bridge design incorporates illuminated letters c, g, a, and t, representing DNA bases, which glow at night alongside the entire double-helix framework.
Four viewing platforms extend from the bridge structure, providing observation points for the Singapore skyline and Marina Bay events.
The structure includes fritted glass and perforated steel mesh canopies that protect pedestrians from sun exposure while connecting Marina Centre with Marina South.

Bridges have connected shores, valleys and communities for centuries. This collection presents significant bridge structures from different periods and regions. From medieval stone arches to modern steel constructions, these works demonstrate the evolution of engineering. The 16th-century Rialto Bridge in Venice spans the Grand Canal with a single stone arch. The Golden Gate in San Francisco extends 2.7 kilometers, connecting the city with northern California. In Singapore, the Helix Bridge forms a pedestrian connection across Marina Bay with its double spiral structure. These constructions serve practical functions in urban transport while defining the skylines of their cities. They document technical solutions to geographic obstacles and show different approaches to bridge building across the centuries.
This collection showcases a global selection of skyscrapers that stand out due to their unconventional architecture, innovative designs, and the unique stories they tell. Each structure defies traditional building norms with cutting-edge engineering and artistic visions, making them not just buildings, but landmarks of human ingenuity.
Singapore combines modern architecture, nature areas and cultural sites for photographers. From Marina Bay to parks, visitors find viewpoints, gardens, temples, historic buildings and modern structures. The city presents natural settings in the Botanic Gardens, urban scenes in ethnic quarters and architectural perspectives of skyscrapers.
