DHL Balloon, Tethered helium balloon in Downtown Core, Singapore
DHL Balloon is a tethered helium structure located on Tan Quee Lan Street that lifts visitors up to 150 meters for views of Singapore's Central Business District and Marina Bay. The gondola carries around 29 people and provides an aerial perspective of the city's towers and waterfront during the ascent.
The structure was first inflated in 2006, marking the start of large-scale aerial advertising in Singapore's skyline. It represented a new approach to public promotion in the city at that time.
The balloon project required unprecedented cooperation between Singapore's Urban Redevelopment Authority, Land Authority, and Tourism Board to permit large-scale public advertising.
The experience depends on weather conditions, as strong winds or rain can interrupt operations and create waiting times. Plan a visit on clear days, ideally in the morning or early evening.
The balloon operates on a vertical rise and fall system controlled by cable tension, taking time for the gentle ascent and descent. This measured pace allows visitors to observe the changing views at a leisurely rate.
