Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, Gothic Revival Catholic church in Rochor, Singapore
The Church of Our Lady of Lourdes is a Gothic Revival church building located in Rochor at 50 Ophir Road, featuring large arches and pilasters throughout its structure. The roof is crowned by an eight-petalled rose window, while the interior maintains classical religious architectural elements.
The building was founded in 1888 after Governor Sir Frederick Weld provided land for its construction. It became the first Tamil Catholic church in Singapore, marking a significant milestone in the city's religious history.
The church serves a diverse congregation in central Singapore, drawing people from multiple ethnic backgrounds who come together for worship. The space functions as a meeting place for communities that speak different languages and follow distinct traditions.
Visitors should know the building is currently undergoing restoration and services are held in a temporary tent structure. Parking is available on Queen Street and Arab Street, making it accessible for those arriving by car.
