Mae Sot

Mae Sot district extends across 1,986 square kilometers of western Thailand territory, incorporating ten sub-districts and 88 village communities along the Myanmar border.

The district gained municipal status in 1939 with 27 villages after operating under village headman leadership since 1937, when its population reached 12,000 residents.

The district contains multiple educational facilities serving 30,000 children from refugee families, alongside the Mae Tao Clinic providing medical care to migrant communities.

The Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge, constructed in 1997, serves as the primary crossing point between Thailand and Myanmar, facilitating international trade through the district.

The Rim Moei Market in Mae Sot district operates as an exchange center where Burmese traders swap traditional handicrafts and jade for electronics and motorcycles.
