Camili, Village in Borçka, Turkey
Camili is a small village in the district of Borçka, in Turkey's Artvin province. Surrounded by rocky hills and forests, it serves as a local hub for nearby villages, with a health clinic, school, and post office.
The village was formerly called Hertvis, a name meaning 'deep and narrow valley.' In 2005, UNESCO designated the surrounding area as a biosphere reserve, the first of its kind in Turkey.
Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and bring supplies, as there are very few shops in or near the village. The roads leading to Camili are narrow and winding, so driving carefully makes the journey much easier.
The area around Camili is home to the Caucasian honeybee, a rare species that scientists travel here specifically to study. This bee is one of the reasons the zone received its biosphere status, making it notable in the world of conservation research.
