Tinkinswood

The limestone burial chamber features a massive 40-ton capstone measuring 24 feet by 14 feet, supported by multiple upright stones forming the chamber walls.

Excavations in 1914 revealed 920 human bones from at least 40 individuals, along with Neolithic and Bell-Beaker pottery dating back to 3500 BC.

The structure belongs to the Severn-Cotswold tomb category, reflecting the engineering capabilities and burial practices of early farming communities in Britain.

The archaeological site, managed by Cadw, includes informative panels and maintains a walking path for visitors to explore the prehistoric monument.

Recent excavations uncovered that a section previously thought to be a fallen burial chamber was actually a Bronze Age barrow, adding new layers to its history.
