Grey Friar, Mountain summit in Cumbria, United Kingdom
Grey Friar reaches an elevation of 770 meters as part of the Coniston Fells, forming the eastern wall of the Duddon Valley with rough slopes and numerous crags.
Mining operations for copper took place on Grey Friar's slopes during the mid-19th century, with installations at Seathwaite mine and Cockley Beck mine.
The mountain forms part of the traditional Lake District fells, contributing to the regional identity through its incorporation in walking guides and peak classifications.
Hikers can access Grey Friar through marked routes starting from Coniston village, the Duddon Valley, or the summit of Wrynose Pass.
A distinctive pointed formation known as Matterhorn Rock stands approximately 200 meters northwest of the primary summit, offering views toward the Scafell massif.
