Creech Grange, Grade I listed country house in Steeple, England.
Creech Grange is a stone manor house at the foot of the Purbeck Hills in Dorset, England, built around several wings and courtyards. It is a Grade I listed building set within parkland that has grown around the house over centuries.
The house was built between 1540 and 1559 by Sir Oliver Lawrence, who acquired the land after the Dissolution of the Monasteries. It was constructed at a time when church-owned land across England was passing into private hands.
The estate hosts the Purbeck Film Festival, bringing open-air screenings to the grounds and drawing visitors from across the region. This gives the property a public role that sits alongside its private residential character.
The property is not open to the public in general, so prior contact is needed before planning a visit. For events such as the film festival, booking ahead and checking parking options in advance is a good idea.
At the highest point of the Purbeck Ridge stands Grange Arch, a decorative gateway built in 1746 by Denis Bond, who owned the estate at the time. The National Trust now manages it, and it can be spotted from far across the surrounding countryside.
