The Etches Collection

The Etches Collection is a museum dedicated to Jurassic marine life and holds over 2,000 specimens, including complete skeletons of prehistoric sea creatures. These fossils come from the Kimmeridge Clay Formation and show the diversity of ancient ocean life that once thrived in this area.

The museum grew from one collector's 30-year effort to systematically gather fossils from the local Kimmeridge Clay Formation. It opened in 2016 and now preserves the record of this coastal region's ancient past.

The place reveals what inhabited the prehistoric sea that covered this land millions of years ago. Visitors gain insight into how communities engage with these remnants of ancient marine worlds today.

The museum lets you examine fossils closely through microscopes and digital tools that help you understand the specimens better. Plan to spend enough time exploring the different displays and interactive stations to get the most from your visit.

The founder regularly works in the museum laboratory, cleaning and preserving newly discovered fossils right on site. This visible hands-on work offers visitors a rare glimpse of how fossils are actually prepared and cared for after excavation.
