Sugarloaf, Ski resort in Carrabassett Valley, Maine
Sugarloaf is a ski resort in Carrabassett Valley that spans 1,240 acres of skiable terrain with 176 trails and glades distributed across six mountain zones, reaching an elevation of 4,237 feet (1,290 m). The layout uses the natural landscape to offer runs for different skill levels throughout the property.
Development began in 1950 when local volunteers from the Mountain Ski Club created the first trail called Winter's Way. The resort has since grown into one of the larger ski destinations in the Northeast.
Trail names here reflect Maine's logging heritage, connecting this winter sports destination to the region's traditional industries and way of life.
Fifteen lifts transport visitors across the mountain, while the Sugarloaf Explorer bus connects lodging to the base area throughout operating hours. Dress in layers to adapt to changing conditions at this higher elevation.
It offers the only lift-serviced skiing above treeline in the northeastern United States. This elevation provides snow and wind conditions that differ markedly from other resorts in the region.
